What is an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) number and how do I get one? Your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) is an index number that colleges use to determine how much financial aid you are eligible to receive. Your EFC is calculated according to a formula established by law and the information you provided on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Further information about the FAFSA is available at: https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa.
Why should I provide my EFC number on my application?

Most scholarships offered through the Mansfield Foundation are based on academic ability and financial need. A few scholarships are based on academic ability without consideration of financial need. Therefore:

Students who provide their EFC number are considered for 100% of the scholarships available through the Mansfield Foundation.

Students who do NOT provide their EFC number are considered for only 20% of the scholarships available through the Mansfield Foundation.

If you decide upon a different college after you submit your application, contact the Foundation’s Scholarship office by email at scholarships@mansfieldfoundation.org or calling (570) 463-4044 as soon as possible with the updated college information.
