Our Mission
The Mansfield Foundation supports and strengthens the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania by empowering students, families, and our communities through support for educational programs, awarding scholarships to students who otherwise would not have the financial means to fulfill their educational goals, and by encouraging and developing sustainable philanthropic resources for a broad range of community efforts.
Voices of Mansfield: A Collected Anthology
The Diaries of Five Citizens of Mansfield, Pennsylvania
This collection gathers the fictionalized diaries of five individuals who lived in or around Mansfield, Pennsylvania. Their voices, though imagined, are rooted in real history, weaving together the daily life, challenges, and hopes of a growing town.
The voice of Dr. Henry G. Smythe, the physician whose care extended beyond his patients to the very heart of the town; Gertrude Welch, farmer and suffragist, who fought to keep her land and her independence; Grace Warner, devoted teacher and gardener, whose small kindnesses nourished her students as surely as her orchards; Ruth Whitfield, who marched and labored for women’s voices to be heard; and Moira Butler, the librarian who believed books were the truest wealth a town could possess.
Together, their words sprout into a living memory of Mansfield’s past not merely history preserved, but history grown anew with each reading.
